ASC Helps Get New Army Center Off The Ground
The Challenge
Construction of the new 320,000-square-foot Third Army/U.S. Army Central headquarters at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina got off to a late start. Due to design changes and bureaucracy, the $100 million project couldn’t receive grooved products until February 2010, but still had to be completed by February 2011. In addition, critical areas of the building had to be doublepiped to accommodate diesel generators for backup power redundancy. With twice the work in half the time, Nash Inc. needed a solution that would still allow them to bring the project in on time and on budget.
The Solution
Fortunately, distributor Eastern Industrial Supply introduced Nash Inc. to ASC Engineered Solutions. An ASC partner for years, Eastern knew that the Gruvlok® system could provide fast, easy installation at an affordable cost that would keep the project on budget. Nash was familiar with grooved piping systems, but when presented with the bid, was extremely impressed with the substantial savings Gruvlok offered over the competition.
Another advantage: Eastern’s facility is very close to the jobsite, so inventory storage and just-in-time delivery ensured adherence to the tight time frame. ASC and Eastern supplied a complete system of pipe hangers, fittings and butt-weld fittings for gas piping in a “bag and tag” configuration that made installation even easier.
Gruvlok 2 1/2" to 10" rigid coupling and fittings, Gruvlok butterfly valves with lever and gear operators, Gruvlok wye strainers, suction diffusers, balancing & tri-service valves and grooved flex connectors were also selected for this build.
The Result
Together, ASC, Eastern Industrial Supply and Nash Inc. were able to complete the Third Army / U.S. Army Central headquarters before the deadline. With Gruvlok’s ease of installation, and a hands-on distributor with nearby facilities, this vital building was finished — complete with redundancies — and ready to serve our country right on time.
