Gruvlok Products Keep Costs Down and Support On-Time Project Completion

Intermountain Riverton Hospital is 350,000 square foot medical campus comprised of four connected buildings and the largest healthcare provider in the Intermountain West of the United States. When KOH Mechanical Contractors of Riverton, UT secured the plan and spec job to remodel the 80,000 square foot outpatient facility of Intermountain Riverton Hospital, also in Riverton, Utah, with a new mechanical system, chiller plant, and air handling penthouse, staying on budget and meeting their nine month deadline was their top priority. KOH brought in Peterson Plumbing Supply for their product needs and manufacturer’s representatives Marshall-Rodeno Associated to provide input to the design engineer.

KOH decided to utilize Gruvlok® products for their time saving installation capability versus a traditional welded system, also reducing labor costs. “Depending on the environment, the labor savings are anywhere from 30 to 40 percent [with Gruvlok®],” according to Larry Hanson VP of KOH Mechanical Contractors. “If we would have been required to provide a welded system, we would have had to work the employees overtime in order to finish the project on time,” he continued. Peterson Plumbing Supply of Salt Lake City supported KOH Mechanical by front loading the job and delivering about 80 percent of the rough-in materials at the start of work. “This helps keep costs down for both of us,” explained KOH Branch Manager, Chavis Peterson.

He continued, “KOH doesn’t have to wait for product or price fluctuation and we can pass on some cost savings to them.” In the case of Intermountain Riverton Hospital, the positive relationships between ASC, KOH Mechanical Contractors, Peterson Plumbing Supply, and Marshall-Rodeno Associated led to the selection of Gruvlok products as the trusted brand to keep costs down and complete the job on time.

The project was completed on time and within budget. Peterson credits products being readily available, their cost being very competitive, and labor savings that reduce our biggest risk,” as the factors ASC contributed to make this project a success.
